Networking Over the Holidays!

This time of year can come with a lot of events and social engagements - at work, within families and friend groups, within communities or for the activities of children and others. How can you incorporate the people you meet and mingle with into your professional network? Here are three ways...

Three Tips for Maximizing the Connections You Make at Events

  1. Start Your List Now - Whether you've just been to an event or you are going to some soon, the most effective networkers create a Networking List. They keep it up to date with notes, ideas and comments about what the individual has shared, and what they can/will/could do to help you in your career objectives. Also think of ways you can be of service to them (see Tip 2 👇 for ideas).

  2. Connect Other People - Your Network is not just about you getting something! Your network is a thriving community that it is your responsibility to cultivate. One amazing way to do that is by connecting people you know. Perhaps there are two or more connections in your network that could really help each other professionally or in other projects? They will be thankful for your thoughtfulness.

  3. Do Your Research - If you know there are some key contacts at an upcoming event, brainstorm on topics and tidbits that may be of interest to them. Follow the news in their industry - not just in print, but also on social media platforms, forums and communities and other industry touch points. Have something interesting to say. Consider a conversation starter question. Connect!
